Job Responsibilities and Work Performed
- Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Must have safe work practices.
- Must have knowledge of water industry rules and regulations.
- Takes water samples and/or performs water tests, including but not limited to chlorine residual, turbidity,and coliform group bacteria.
- Reading water meters and recording readings.
- Responding to routine enquiries and complaints from the public regarding water quality and quantity.
- Undertaking other assigned duties and projects, as required.
- Be able to inspect, operate, troubleshoot, and test necessary plant and pump station operation equipment,such as chemical feed equipment, clarifier and filter process equipment, large and small pumps, telemetrysensory equipment, transmission lines, reservoirs, and related equipment.
- Able to work safely, wearing required personal protective equipment around hazardous chemicals.
- Operate emergency call equipment, cell phones, computer, and specialty software.
- Install new and replace old water services.
- Flush, install, repair, fire hydrants.
- Install, repair, and replace distribution line valves.
- Repair water main both as preventative measure and in an emergency mode.
- Install and replace blow-off assemblies.
- Install and re-plumb system air-vacuum breakers and air release valves as required.
- Maintain and troubleshoot PRVs.
- Restore landscaping and property in areas where work was performed.
- Locate water services and mains.
- Respond to customer complaints and requests.
- Use various tools and equipment to perform water service - hydrant, valve, water main, and PRVmaintenance.
- Complete required paperwork, such as work orders, plant compliance forms.
- Read water meters as required.
- Attend meetings when requested.
- Perform pressure/flow tests on services.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliableoperation.
- Perform routine custodial/maintenance duties to keep building, furnishings and grounds clean and in goodappearance.
- Perform a variety of laboratory tests and other analyses including testing for chlorine, pH, turbidity.
- Ensure adequate supplies of chemicals for water analysis and treatment.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work areas.
- Assumes the responsibilities and duties of the Public Works Supervisor in his absence.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum Academic/Educational Requirements:
- Possess a Grade 12 Diploma
- Preferably completion of post-Secondary education in Water and/or Wastewater Technology programwith a valid EOCP Water Distribution Level 1 or higher.
Other Certification, Licenses, Designations and/or Training:
- Certifies with EOCP (Water Treatment Level 1) or eligible for certification within six months of hire with aValid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
Minimum Operating Certificate/Licenses for:
- Wastewater Treatment (OIT)
- Wastewater Collection (OIT)
- Clean Driver’s Abstract and access to a vehicle.
- Level 1 First Aid and transportation endorsement and backflow prevention
Specific Job Skills and Levels:
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude and is familiar with various types of tools.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills and a willingness to develop and grow these onthe job.
- Proactively, or by management request, maintains current training and pursues advanced certification.
- Under general supervision, this position works safely independently or in a group setting. You will beexpected to develop good rapport with fellow co-workers, contractors, supervisor, and customers. You areexpected to communicate in a courteous, constructive, and patient manner with associates and the public.
Minimum Level of Experience:
- 1-2 years of directly related experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of water systems includingknowledge of related procedures, bylaws, methods, tools, and equipment.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $24.00-$30.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
