Role
The Health Information Systems Division has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Test Analyst in the Strategic IMT Services Branch.
The Quality Assurance and Testing (QAT) team contributes to an important part of the software development life-cycle that the department relies upon to meet its operational requirements.
The Tester position is responsible for working with the internal business teams, team members, and external vendors closely to execute the application testing activities for Alberta Health Information Technology (IT) initiatives. The position plays a role in planning and executing manual and automated test cases, identifying and documenting issues, and reporting the testing status and results to stakeholders.
As Alberta Health IT initiatives move towards requiring more complex and integrated IT solutions, supporting the test planning and execution in holistic perspective is required and more critical to support business teams for the User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
This job is accountable for planning, maintaining, and executing UAT and Conformance Testing for Alberta Health systems and applications.
To be effective, the position must perform creation and maintenance of the manual and automated test suites for Alberta Health systems and applications by using Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) software/tools. This position also assists business teams by providing the test data support by accessing database, automated tools, or the integrated applications to create new data manually or by using data creation scripts.
Tasks performed by the position includes (but not limited to):
- Provide testing support for application development, enhancement, and maintenance teams and contribute to a base of testing practices that can be shared and reused.
- Provide support for third party health system vendor as part of Conformance testing activities.
- Maintain communications between internal IT teams, application business teams, and application development and maintenance teams, vendor teams, and project teams.
- Administer, maintain, execute, and provide support for Testing Tools (Defect, automation, etc.) for application development/maintenance projects.
Qualifications
A University degree in an Information Technology or Computer Science or in a related field.
Related experience or education maybe considered as an equivalency:
- a related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and two (2) years related experience is required or
- a related one-year certificate from a recognized postsecondary institution and three (3) years related experience is required.
Required experience includes:
- Experience with Information Technology initiatives
- Experience using development/testing tools/technologies/software such as: Defect Management Tool (i.e. JIRA), SFTP, Microsoft Office; Test Automation Tools; Language and other Tools, and Scripting Languages
- Knowledge of development tool and technology such as: Programming Tools (Eclipse, Visual Studio); Databases (DB2, DB4, SQL Server, Oracle, MS Access); Web Server Platforms (Web sphere, Apache, IIS)
Preference will be given to individuals with:
- Experience with Software development and Testing Lifecycles
- Experience with administering testing tools
- Experience with dealing with integrated IT solutions
- Experience with HL7/system to system messages and ETL
- Experience working with Information technology solution vendors
The following experience is considered an asset:
- ISTQB or QAI certification
- Knowledge of infrastructure technologies and tools such as: Server operating systems; Client operating systems; Networking, virtualization environments

Salary
$2,188.39 - $3,282.06 ($57,116 to $85,661/year)

Hours of Work:
- 36.25 hours per week (full time)
Position Location:
- ATB Place North, Edmonton. This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).
