Position Overview
Reporting to the Schools Supervisors, the Lead Hand is responsible for assisting the Manager and Supervisor(s) with daily operations, and vehicle switch-outs and is a backup driver for all routes. The position requires the ability to work within a number of spheres of operation including both on road and in the office. The position requires an understanding of the administrative components of the operation and requires the ability to work on several computer platforms such as internal reporting and scheduling.
Knowledge & Skills
The ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintain paperwork and timesheets/vacations as required
- Forward problems or concerns from drivers or customers to the Supervisor
- Perform daily circle checks on spare schools vehicles and is prepared to switch off broken-down vehicles or complete a school run on last-minute notice
- Become knowledgeable of all school runs for the designated regions
- Switch off vehicles and transport vehicle to designated garage or to Voyageur base
- Ensure new drivers follow proper procedures as outlined by Voyageur
- Assist with a new driver and returning driver orientation
- Assist or take the lead on special projects as they arise
- Act as an ambassador of Voyago on and off company property
- Is willing to participate in education upgrading as required
Requirements
- Have a B-class license
- Proven experience within the transportation or service industry
- Clean the driver's abstract
- Must provide clear Criminal Record Search with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Able to work independently
- Excellent, strong proven customer service experience
- Time and Stress Management skills
- In-depth knowledge of the region and surrounding areas
- Follows directions well
- Knowledgeable of safety regulations and rules
- Good communications skills
- In-depth knowledge of schools policies and procedures
- Previous training experience is an asset
- Computer Software experience in MS Word & Excel with proficient data entry capabilities
- Mechanical background is a definite asset
- Strong leadership skills
