What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
- Strong leadership skills with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or customer service-based roles;
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing digital marketing plans for large organizations along with:
- a solid understanding of communications best practices;
- audience engagement methods;
- storytelling with expert skills in writing, editing, and advising on design;
- Basic graphic design and presentation skills (Adobe Suite);
- Proactive work ethic and the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment;
- Comfort leading and executing projects while working independently, and as part of a team;
- Comfort supporting emergency and/or crisis communications response;
- Proven commitment to customer service, collaboration and partnering for mutual outcomes;
- Experience and interest in health, fitness and/or recreation is preferred;
- Exposure to not-for-profit and charitable organizations is valuable;
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
- Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
The Digital Marketing Specialist collaborates with business leads and subject matter experts, generates content, and executes tactical work based on the strategic goals of the Association.

- Manage all paid marketing channels including budget allocation, search query analysis, competitive analysis and campaign execution;
- Regularly report, develop and implement new strategies to optimize marketing spend and performance to meet KPIs;
- Plan and execute content marketing campaigns, email, social media and website management (including E-Commerce);
- Work closely with the team to amplify brand campaigns across paid marketing channels, delivering a cohesive best in class digital marketing experience;
- Ensure all marketing offerings are optimized and working as expected;
- Lead the advancement and evolution of YMCA Calgary digital communications tools (website, social, digital signage, apps) to improve brand and guest experience;
- Be the in-house expert for digital marketing channels, working with external vendor partnerships to ensure we’re up to date with new digital products being launched;
- Stay abreast of digital marketing trends, emerging marketing technologies and privacy, contributing to the Association’s strategic direction;
- Provide insights and counsel on stakeholder engagement best practice, audience analysis and preferences – showcasing diversity, equity, inclusion, and representation in work products;
- Ensure high quality writing standards, reflecting YMCA Calgary brand voice and tone;
- Provide media relations and crisis communications response support as needed;
- Plan and coordinate events as needed, which may involve some evening or weekend work.
