The Opportunity

Employment Type: Temporary Part Time 0.2 FTE
Hours of Work: Flexible 4hrs 2x a week
Wages: $18.25 Complex Care, but not exclusive to

Duties:

Reporting to the Site Manager/Care Manager/Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on shift, Comfort Care Aides work in a safe and consistent manner to deliver resident/client meal services, comfort and support activities, and cleaning services throughout the care home/program during a pandemic.

• Acting as a resident companion as directed; providing comfort and support to residents via companionship such as playing cards, reading the newspaper together, art, hand pampering
• Assisting residents/clients with using mobile communication devices such as a smart phones, tablets
• Portering residents/clients to and from their rooms, recreational activities, and dining room as required
• Provides choice to clients/residents in terms of selection, while taking pride in food presentation and customer satisfaction
• Assisting with meals and feeding as directed by the RN/LPN
• Filling and replacing PPE carts
• Cleaning tubs/showers after use
• Making unoccupied beds
• Empties laundry baskets, as required
• Empties garbage, as required
• Resident/client hair care
• Assisting residents/clients with hearing or vision challenges
• Completes enhanced cleaning/disinfecting of high touch surfaces throughout the building
• Screens staff and visitors as per outbreak/pandemic procedure
• Monitors front entrance and receives deliveries as required
• Loads and unloads supplies into appropriate storage rooms

The ideal candidate will bring to this opportunity:

• Minimum Grade 10
• Loving Spoonful’s (will be provided on orientation)
• Able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret and understand it fully
• Comfortable using a computer in order to complete orientation and onboarding
• Exhibits an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
• Maintains an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations
• Excellent active listening skills
• Demonstrates flexibility by changing routine to accommodate resident/client need
• Experience working with the elderly preferred
• Housekeeping/environmental experience preferred

Requirements:

• A current and clear Criminal Records Check Form and Clearance Letter prior to the hire date.
• A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.

As per the GSS Immunization of Workers for COVID-19 Policy (for Alberta) and the Provincial Health Officer order for mandatory COVID-19 vaccination (for BC), all employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment. All offers of employment will be conditional on the applicant providing proof of vaccination. Proof of vaccination requires a government-issued QR Code or document confirming COVID-19 vaccination.

COVID-19 Immunization: Proof of full immunization against COVID-19. Full immunization status is achieved when 14 days have passed after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine, or the first dose of a single-dose vaccine.
