What does this role look like?

The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.

Position Description

Purpose

The purpose of this job is to co-ordinate student transportation for an administrative area as an engaged transportation team member.

Accountability

The job is accountable for

  • Co-ordinating student transportation for an administrative area
  • Being a single point of contact for an administrative area regarding transportation
  • Building and maintaining stakeholder relationships through effective customer service and stakeholder engagement
  • Connecting tasks completed with the overall department’s work using collaboration and engaged thinking
Major responsibilities
  • Create bus routes and schedules based on current parameters and update them as required
  • Communicate route changes to stakeholders
  • Schedule routes and runs to maximize efficiencies
  • Administer student transportation contracts by processing applications, assessing eligibility, processing cancellations, print riders cards, and follow up on students riding without contracts and/or ZPass cards
  • Proactively review routes to ensure they are running as planned by using available technologies
  • Prioritize, investigate, respond to, resolve, document and track stakeholder transportation concerns
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on the phone, email, and in person
  • Analyze and update data using available technologies and information to conduct audits and produce reports autonomously and upon request
  • Compile the Transit Pass Rebate list, as applicable
  • Review school signage and offer suggestions to ensure there is a safe loading/unloading zone for students
  • Request, gather, analyze and summarize information as required to effectively plan for upcoming school years
  • Support schools with Notice of Intent (NOI) entries and review entries to ensure requests are consistent with busing partners
  • Conduct Calgary Transit route analysis to understand ride metrics for students assigned to Calgary Transit
  • Ensure provincially mandated route assessments are complete for each run
  • Participate in student transportation training for all modes of transportation
  • Conduct visits to schools, bus stops, new communities, meetings, service providers, and as assigned
  • Remain aware of current political climate in the city, CBE, province
  • Analyze changes that are both directly and indirectly connected to transportation to understand the impact on transportation and update databases as necessary
  • Understand the department’s work to allow the ability to support other transportation team members when required
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned to meet the purpose and accountabilities of the role.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Street level knowledge of the city
  • School bus transportation experience
  • Minimum three (3) years related experience in student transportation industry in an office environment
  • Working knowledge of Bus Planner is an asset
  • High School Diploma
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding of efficient routing and scheduling
  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service and conflict management skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to navigate multiple sources of technology simultaneously including Bus Planner, Google Maps, Microsoft Office Suite, My Bus Stop, Student Information System (SIS).
  • Knowledge of applicable guidelines, laws, and regulations
  • Ability to prioritize and complete accurate work under stringent and sometimes changing guidelines and priorities
  • Ability to work with limited direction
  • Ability to work collaboratively to complete team tasks and system projects
  • Ability to work in an open office team environment
  • This job requires personal transportation to conduct job responsibilities.
