If you are passionate about food and have a desire to dive into the art of Sushi and the Japanese Cuisine, we have a great opportunity for you. The Tachi Academy is designed for anyone with or without culinary experience who wants to learn Sushi making and traditional Japanese cuisine.

Professional sushi chefs require specific training, to learn this highly specialized component of Japanese cuisine that is an art.

With the training and guidance from our highly skilled professional Sushi Chefs who are seasoned in sushi and education and under the mentorship of our 2-star Michelin Chef, pursuing a career as a Sushi Chef will give you a wide variety of opportunities; from learning the authentic art of making nigiri sushi, to great earning potential, to running your own restaurant.

This professional paid training has been designed as an opportunity for people who want to move forward professionally in a short amount of time.

This Position Includes:

  • Learning how to make nigiri sushi
  • Knife handling skills training
  • Proper Shari technique
  • Japanese seasonal ingredients
  • Edomae style fish treatment and preparation

Other culinary strengths you’ll use in your role as a sushi chef:

  • Innovative presentation
  • Sushi station hygiene and sanitation
  • Excellent communication skills and how to interact with the public
  • Creativity to assist with menu creation.

What You Have to Offer:

  • Excellent work ethic
  • Previous kitchen experience is an asset, not necessary but preferred.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment

We offer a competitive compensation package with a tier salary increase with each level achieved.

Job Types: Full-time, Apprenticeship

Salary: From $35,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and, if hired, present proof of vaccination by start date.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Toronto, ON M5H 2G4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • Chef: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
