Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the delivery of strategic financial solutions, preparation, administration and reconciliation of financial records and reports.


As a Senior Accountant, you will be a critical part of the organization working to support the organizational needs of the business with timely & effective financial guidance and tools. This position will actively contribute to the overall development of the accounting team, fostering collaborative relationships, leading, and delivering on strategic initiatives while managing a large breadth of client services.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare Goods & Services Tax and Provincial Sales Tax statements
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, notes to financial results, and cash flow statements for Senior Management
  • Completion of various government surveys and questionnaires
  • Assist Management and Corporate Controller in preparation of annual budgets
  • Reconciliation of prepaid accounts and posting of related month-end journal entries
  • Recording of fixed asset purchases/disposals and month-end depreciation
  • Support the design, implementation, and overseeing accounting policies and procedures to maximize efficiency and increase accuracy of the accounting processes
  • Prepare spreadsheet and reconciliation reports for banking institutions and auditors
  • Review accounting records for accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Assist with credit and collection functions as needed
  • Assist with payable functions in the absence of the Accounts Payable team member
  • Support the Sr Corporate Controller & CFO in hiring, training, developing, & mentoring other members of the Finance/Accounting team

Qualifications

  • Degree in business or related field with a professional accounting designation preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • CPA Designation required
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently as well as play a role within a cohesive team of professionals
  • Extensive knowledge of financial reporting and budgeting especially as it pertains to financial performance measurement
  • Ability to perform financial functions within an organization subject to various internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Committed to lifelong learning & demonstrates an eagerness to identify new tools to increase capacity & efficiencies
  • An effective communicator with the ability to develop positive working relationships across a multitude of business
