Job Summary


The Launch Tooling Coordinator is responsible for the development, build, and level up of all tools related to new programs. Work closely with the Launch Team and VTCA and ensure all tools meet Vuteq’s Tooling Standards during the development of the tooling.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Involved in the analysis of technical data (Drawings, data, sketches) provides insight into manufacturing capabilities.
  • Advise on new mold specification to enhance tooling.
  • Participate in Design reviews and Mold Flow review; ensure tooling is correct, and it meets the demands of what the customer wants/needs
  • Review plant capacity with Injection Specialist Coordinator to confirm intended press size
  • Present Maker layout and cost for plant sign off
  • Support management selection of tool shops
  • Support VTCA activities related to pre-production ECI, Ringisho, PO process and arrange tooling transportation
  • Identify critical spare parts required during launch activities and provide requirements to Mass Production Tooling Coordinator
  • Visit tool shops during the build phase to review progress
  • Attend tool testing and ensure the mold functions correctly
  • Ensure tools are production ready prior to start of production. Participates in hand off of tooling from VTCA/Tool Shops to Plant.
  • Lead plant side PFS activities on all tools from transfer from VTCA until HVPT is completed and all items resolved
  • Coordinate with Mold Maintenance team the inspection of new tools upon arrival at Vuteq.
  • Mentor and train new/more junior team members
  • When required, assist with tool repairs
  • Attend tool testing and ensure the mold functions correctly
  • Work closely with VTCA tooling during hand off of tools to the Launch Team.
  • Create the graining instructions working closely with the customer and the grain shop.
  • Send data to the supplier for quoting.
  • Prepare / analyzes tooling cost breakdown and negotiate final pricing with the tool and / or grain shops.
  • Prepare and maintain cost trackers for each program.


Job Qualifications


Education

  • Successful completion of a minimum 2 - 4-year post-secondary program; design, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering are considered relevant


Experience

  • 5 – 7 years of experience in mold design/mold making is considered to be an asset
  • Program management experience is considered an asset
  • Automotive experience is considered to be an asset


Skills and Abilities

  • Actively listening to tool shops and fellow designers on engineering changes and specifications
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Project, Auto Cad, Catia, Solidworks
  • Ability to show versatility and resourcefulness when problem solving
  • Program Management: organizing and tracking multiple tooling projects
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when preparing and reviewing mold designs
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands from customers as well as fellow team members
  • Strong interpersonal skills; having to communicate with several people at once
  • Ability to organize priorities based on deadlines and importance of tasks
  • Manage time efficiently while working on several different tasks at once
  • Sense of creativity when designing a mold, and when having to change and adapt to different specifications


Other

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
