Health & Benefits Advisor (Talent & Culture)

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Talent & Culture, The Health & Benefits Advisor is responsible for developing and managing the Hotel’s Health, Safety and Wellness programs and initiatives. The Health & Benefits Advisor manages disability claims, administers the Hotel’s Return to Work Program, sits as chair on the Health & Safety Committee, serves as Plan Administrator for the Group Benefits Plan and provides ongoing resources and supports for a variety of employee inquiries and issues.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Provide leadership in developing, communicating and implementing a vision for employee health, safety and wellness within the Hotel
Practice discretion and confidentiality of colleague information according to privacy and employment legislations and according to Fairmont and Accor’s internal policies
Develop, deploy and promote wellness initiatives and programs for the Hotel which help to reduce work-related injuries and illness and improve overall employee well-being
Manage the WCB claim process including, but not limited to, claim filing, coordinating the return-to-work program, evaluating options for modified work duties, and communicating with the employee and WCB to ensure a seamless claim process
Educate employees about the Group Benefits Plan, the Employee Assistance Plan and the Group Pension Plan.

Administer the Plans in accordance with Accor and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts policies
Administer Short-Term Disability Claims on behalf of the Hotel. Advise on disability accommodations considering medical prognoses and physician recommendations. Communicate with treating Physicians and Health Care Practitioners to ensure claim files are complete while ensuring high level of privacy
Actively work to reduce WCB premium costs·

Manage the accrual and forecast process for Health & Benefits to ensure they align with the yearly budget
Work with HRIS to ensure beneficiaries are updated, deduction elections are maintained on a consistent basis, and employee files are up to date
Audit enrollments, waivers, terminations and billings by partners monthly, quarterly and annually, ensuring the accuracy of records
Maintain monthly premium payments for benefits and coordinate payments with the Hotel Accounting team
Prepare various monthly benefits reports and submit to the attention of Director/Assistant Director of Talent & Culture
Support management with respect to workplace injuries, disability accommodation, prevention of injuries, and modified work issues as required
Track and report a monthly summary of incidents and safety statistics
Co-Chair the Health & Safety Committee and assist with the planning and administering of the Health & Safety meetings based on committee initiatives and hotel goals; Ensure Hotel compliance in all Health & Safety obligations
Prepare monthly health and safety reports and reviews at monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings
Facilitate Health, Safety, Wellness and Benefit portion of Orientation
Collaborate with the Lifestyles Manager to provide additional Health and Wellness programming on site to all Employees
File all general documents and correspondence related to the role and ensure the confidentiality in all matters
Maintain the Employee Medical Files
Maintain relationships with service partners that manage Health & Benefit Insurance, WCB, Pension and RRSP Benefits; Also establish and maintain relationships with the Corporate Office Team and local medical practitioners.
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
University degree or College diploma in Human Resources, Hospitality or related field required
1-2 years of previous Human Resources and Benefit experience required
Previous experience in accident claim management, disability management, Group Benefit Plan administration, and Health & Safety program administration are strong assets
Ability to demonstrate compassion and assertiveness in managing sensitive employee situations
Proven ability to maintain professionalism in a highly confidential environment
Strong interpersonal and communications skills both written and verbal
Strong technical abilities in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word) and in HR Management System
Ability to multi-task and maintain focus in busy work environment
Excellent attention to details and superior problem-solving skills
