General Manager, Transport Operations Job at Remco

The General Manager of Transport Operations will be responsible for contributing and leading the successful operation of the Transportation Operations of the Company (Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, and Vancouver).

The key responsibility of this position will be to guide the strategic direction of Remco’s transport operations. Effectively and efficiently manage the operational team to drive the growth of revenue and profitability, efficient productivity and promote high levels of customer satisfaction. A big part of this role will be to continuously coach and mentor the operational teams to achieve organization goals and objectives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide vision and leadership that encourages growth and safeguards the assets, customers and employees.
  • Ensure that operational management team complies with all company and legal requirements regarding employee management and a safe work environment.
  • Secure partner carrier capacities to support evolving business needs.
  • Drive improved service levels using carrier score-carding & metrics.
  • Drive improved fiscal performance using key KPI’s.
  • Improve service to customers (internal and external) via measurable score-carding
  • Coordinate with other department leaders (Finance, Warehousing, Human Resources, Sales, IT) for the betterment of the business.
  • Initiate, lead and complete key projects.
  • Provide insight into industry trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Plan, develop and implement strategy for operational management to meet agreed organizational performance plans within budgets and timelines.
  • Drive initiatives in the management team and organization that contribute to long-term operational excellence.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate systems and metrics/KPI for measuring necessary aspects of operational management and development.
  • Guide and participate in streamlining business processes to ensure efficiency in the operations.
  • Oversee the organization’s budget process; establish timelines; provide support to management team; hold management team accountable for process.
  • Monitor measure and report on operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timelines.
  • Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of all departments through improvements to each function (Transport – Driver management, Dock labour, Garage, Warehousing services, etc) as well as coordination and communication between functions and divisions.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their work.
  • Execute all responsibilities to lawful and ethical standards.
  • Is accountable for the health and safety of those under their supervision.
  • Enforce rules, procedures, and safe work practices
  • Regular travel will be required.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-10 plus years of general business leadership experience required.
  • Minimum 5+ years transportation experience required.
  • Experience in LTL transportation Preferred.
  • Experience leading a team with a TMS is required.
  • University degree, preferred in business management
  • Adequate computer skills and proficiency in excel, word, and outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. The ability to communicate effectively with people in all areas of a company is vital.
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Excels at operating in a fast pace, seasonal environment.
  • Ideal candidate would have experience building a successful transportation group, experience managing a 3PL Managed Freight background
