THE OPPORTUNITY

What You’ll Do: With the overarching objective of Defining a Higher Standard in continuous improvement, the Division Accountant is responsible for full cycle accounting, financial reporting and analysis and administrative support. Working closely with Finance and Operations, the Division Accountant provides operation support, relevant analysis, and participates in value-added decision support.

Who You Are: Our ideal candidate has a CPA Designation or is a CPA student, as well as a degree in business management, finance, or accounting. Two years of experience in a financial and or business services capacity and working knowledge of the coastal log industry is considered a strong asset.

Work Environment: This position is to be performed in person at our Saltair Sawmill Operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Performance

  • Month-end closing process including journal entries, standard reporting package, account reconciliations, KPI tracking, and Monthly Operating Report analysis and preparation;
  • Support and assist the Division Controller in day-to-day finance needs as well as strategic financial analysis; this role will also provide coverage in the Division Controller’s absence
  • Provide financial review and approval for all vendor payments and accounts receivable transactions;
  • Prepare ad hoc management reports and ensure integrity of operational data feeding-related business systems;
  • Perform analytical support for operation cost and margin improvement;
  • Assist in the operation’s annual planning process, quarterly and monthly forecasting;
  • Assist operations in making financial decisions that maximize performance;
  • Facilitate process reliability & optimization analyses;
  • Facilitate standardization and streamlining of processes;
  • Ensure compliance with internal corporate policies and external controls; and
  • Provide guidance to junior team members and administrative staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • CPA designation; or CPA student
  • University degree in business management, finance or accounting;
  • More than two (2) years experience in a financial and/or business services capacity; and
  • Working knowledge of the coastal log industry is a strong asset

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word);
  • Detail-focused with a strong ability to work with tight deadlines and prioritize tasks;
  • Improvement-oriented and focused on identifying business operating efficiencies;
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, including building relationships with customers and government agencies;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of full-cycle accounting; and
  • Committed to continuous learning.
