The Hinton Friendship Centre is seeking a

Youth Program Coordinator

35 hours a week

The successful applicant will work to plan and execute a culturally relevant programming for ages 8+. This person will create, plan, and execute all daily activities of the program including programming, networking, documentation, safety checks, and other ongoing duties.

Duties

· Establish trusting and meaningful relationships with youth and provide guidance

· Plan, organize and implement activities including traditional and land-based activities, recreation, crafts, drama, healthy life skills, and more

· Promote a positive lifestyle

· Cleaning and organizing workspace, including sanitizing and regular cleaning

· Work various hours including after school, summer holidays, days, and evenings

o Some weekends may be involved.

· Work with local Elders and Traditional Peoples to bring Cultural opportunities to youth and families

· Able to engage youth in person and via online platforms such as Zoom

· Attend Centre functions and promote the Friendship Centre Movement

· Work with local schools and youth agencies to set the youth up for success

· Work with other programs within the Centre and community to best serve the youth and families

· Develop an understanding of issues effecting Urban Indigenous youth and their families including Intergenerational trauma, suicide, FASD, and poverty

· Must be able to work independently and as part of a team

Requirements

· Must be a positive role model and enjoy mentoring youth

· Must be open minded and open to new experiences and opportunities

· Must provide a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Screening check and clean Driver’s Abstract

· Valid Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certification is required

· Valid Class 5 Drivers License with intention to upgrade to Class 4

· Must be self-motivated and the ability to motivate youth

Assets

· Class 4 driver’s license

· Traditional Indigenous knowledge

· Previous experience working with Traditional youth and families
