We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and motivated programmer/web developer to join our team and contribute to our mission of improving health outcomes through cutting-edge technology. In this role, you will work on developing and deploying software solutions to support our research projects in the health field. The successful candidate will contribute to an open, data science pipeline for COVID-19 wastewater and other public health surveillance data. The data pipeline continues to inform COVID-19 prevention and control through epidemiology and machine learning studies. The pipeline includes public dashboards and an open access database that can be used by researchers, students, and reporters worldwide. They will work under the direct supervision of Senior Scientist, Dr. Doug Manuel.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and maintain software solutions for research projects in the health field
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of researchers, data scientist, and engineers to develop and implement software solutions
  • Work with large and complex data sets to support research initiatives
  • Design and implement algorithms to analyse and interpret data
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
  • Ensure the quality of the software through testing, debugging and optimisation
  • Provide support to other project staff/participants for how to use open science software, such as Git, GitHub, and provide assistance to other staff to improve their programming skills.

Additional duties may be added as the project progresses.

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, health or biomedical sciences, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Proficiency using Git and Linux
  • Intermediate experience with the Python programming language
  • Intermediate experience with the Nim programming language
  • Intermediate experience with the Delphi programming language
  • Intermediate experience with the C++ programming language
  • Intermediate experience developing web applications
  • Experience developing and publishing Python libraries
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Passion for health care and technology
  • All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given for candidates with a master's degree in epidemiology, health services research, public health, computer science, biostatistics, health informatics or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the R, and JavaScript/Typescript programming language
  • Experience developing web applications with the Plotly Dash framework
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning algorithms
  • Experience working in an open-source project
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be self-directed, and to work both independently and within a team environment.
