General Summary:
The compounding supervisor is responsible for co-coordinating shift activities for the compounding department. Ensuring safe work practices, while focusing on highest possible product quality and efficiency.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all operations and staff are performing in accordance with cGMP guidelines and Taro SOPs. Promote 5S activities and ensure good housekeeping is maintained at all times.
- Monitor and ensure compounding schedule adherence on a daily basis.
- Participate in scheduling activities with other members of operations and support departments as requested.
- Review batch records, SOP revisions, Validation protocols and other documents as required.
- Ensure timely completion of all Calibration, Preventive Maintenance and Repairs along with the necessary documentation Ensure self- training and training of compounding associates are kept current.
- Follow and lead staff in Taro Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures. Ensure that safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Play a leading role in employee management such as coaching for improvement, and performance management Assist in preparing departmental budget.
- Participate in and/or lead Non-Conformance Investigations related to people, process, product or equipment.
- Develop and complete robust Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA’s).
- Initiate, and follow through to closure of Change Controls.
- Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits ensuring the department is audit ready at all times.
- Maintain sufficient inventory of consumable supplies and equipment /parts at all times. Assist mechanics in the ordering of parts and consumables.
- Participate in inter-departmental meetings when required.
- Participate and conduct training sessions/team meetings as required.
- Perform payroll and human resources functions such as managing Time & Attendance (OneHR), hiring, coaching, recognition/correction and performance management of team members
- Report and complete safety incident reports and safety self- inspections
- Delegate, direct, and consult department employees as necessary with high level of personal integrity, ethical standards including leading by example.
- Other duties as required / assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and equipment
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self motivated with a positive outlook
- Ability to analyze, perform root cause analysis, involve appropriate stakeholders in the decision-making process
- Good time-management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated skills in facilitation, coaching, enhancing employee engagement, attendance and performance management, and safety adherence
- Able to train and motivate associates
- Able to keep confidences
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Lotus Notes /Microsoft Outlook
- Working knowledge of SAP or other MRP program
- Excellent knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices
Background and Experience:
- Post Secondary Education in Science (Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology) is preferred
- Minimum 5-7 years of supervisory experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or related environment
- Strong pharmaceutical /food industry experience preferred
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement is preferred
Working Conditions:
- May be contacted through telephone during off hours regarding “urgent” or emergency issues
- Exposure to chemicals, odors from raw materials and products, as well as noise from equipment.
- Work overtime as required
