Job Summary
This role is responsible for supporting Halton Region’s Strategic Policy & Government Relations team through research on related topics.
To be eligible to apply for a summer student position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
- In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution and returning to school on a full-time basis in the Fall of 2023.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis of various Regional, Provincial or Federal policy and advocacy issues and prepare briefing material.
- Monitor relevant legislation and provide summaries.
- Monitor issues on an ongoing basis through various channels and prepare daily issue reports.
- Review and synthesize relevant information by conducting research, reviewing, and summarizing reports.
- Assist with Corporate Policy Reviews and Corporate Public Engagement initiatives.
- Review reports, articles, literature, as well as legislation and prepare briefing material.
- Participate in process documentation review.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program that supports Public Administration, Political Science or a related field.
- Excellent research, verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly analytical, organized, resourceful and adaptable.
- Good understanding of data analytics and political acuity.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred
- Knowledge of the working and programs of Regional, Provincial and Federal governments.
- Strong project management skills
Working/ Employment Conditions
- In support of the Region’s commitment to a healthy and safe workplace and community, the Region has a vaccination requirement for all employees.
