What will you do?

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to start their career in the human services field. We will work with you to develop your skills and provide you with internal and external learning opportunities to help you grow and develop your own career.

Working directly with clients, you will help them develop a realistic resume by going through their previous experience to highlight all the skills they could bring to a job. You will utilize your knowledge of the labour market when making recommendations for clients. This includes:

• Conducting interviews with clients to gather all the relevant information to develop a resume including an in-depth review of employment history to identify transferable skills, strengths, education history, volunteer experience, interests, and other relevant information.
• Utilize assessment tools when needed, then work with clients to analyze career exploration information
• Develop a through understanding of Prospect’s programs and services to refer clients to complimentary services within Prospect such as essential skill building, and workshops
• Work the Employment Resource Centre (ERC) to assist clients that may need help with their resumes, job applications, and computer related skills.
• Assists to develop and facilitate group-based workshops on the topic of resumes

What does it take to do this job?

• Completion of post-secondary education, preferably related to Career Advising
• Experience with client relations with direct experience relating with a broad demographic
• Experience in pre-employment and essential skill development expertise including resume and cover letter development, and job search techniques
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and presentation software; advanced proficiency with internet, online, and social media platforms
• Good oral communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships, engage, counsel, motivate, coach, and collaborate
• Knowledge of and experience using career exploration tools and websites
• Capability to set goals for oneself and assist clients to develop their goals
• Innovative with the ability to take initiative to become a subject matter expert in the career advising field
• Problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Able to consistently display a warm, friendly, and helpful demeanor
