JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:
Residential Child/Youth Supervisor

POSITION REPORTS TO:
House Manager

GENERAL:

In accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, and standards, the Supervisor is responsible for: the day-to-day safety and wellbeing of clients placed with XPey’ Lelum; actively promoting a team-based approach for the efficient, responsible and practical functioning of the home through principals of community, safety, collaboration, choice, trust and empowerment; facilitating and promoting an established and high level quality of care; implementing the client’s care plan and behavior intervention plan; and respecting the client’s spirit, dignity and individuality.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overall the Supervisor oversees support workers and other staff as assigned, coaches and mentors’ staff in behavior management and intervention, develops strong connections to the youth and maintains unconditional positive regard for them, and ensures that staff duties are completed in a timely manner.

Other key duties include:

1. Understanding thoroughly each child’s care plan and behaviour intervention plan; actively taking measures to fulfill the tasks set out in the client care plan and implement the behaviour intervention supports and strategies identified for each child.

2. Mentor and guide support workers on achieving a high-level quality of care. This includes: guiding staff on meeting expectations set out in care plans and behaviour intervention plans; role modeling how to address and troubleshoot challenging behaviors in clients; and providing guidance on logging high quality, meaningful client notes.

3. Scheduling and arranging visits for a child with his/her family and friends approved by the child’s social worker in accordance with the schedule set out.

4. Ensuring a child’s healthcare needs are attended to in a timely matter. This includes scheduling routine check ups and on as needed basis to address health matters as they arise. It also includes ensuring a child’s nutritional plan is in place and his or her height and weight is measured and tracked on a monthly basis.

5. Ensuring all appointments with a child’s healthcare providers (e.g. doctor, dentist, psychiatrist, optometrist, walk-in physician etc.) are recorded on a medical visit form and submitted to the
Manager for review and saved to the proper location on the Xpey Lelum network. The Supervisor will help maintain monthly logs of the medical visits for each child.

6. Ensuring quality control with respect to administering medication according to the orders given by a child’s doctor. This includes ensuring the medication administration record (MAR) and medication labels match and align with the doctor’s orders. Ensuring the MAR sheet is accurately tracking the administering of medications and that changes in medication are reflected on a MAR sheet that is updated/revised by the pharmacist.

7. Ensuring incident reports are: a. completed accurately, formatted, and saved to the proper location on the Xpey Lelum network; b. tracked in a monthly log for each child; and c. reported to management, Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services, and the Community Care Facility Licensing program.

8. Assist in the development of the recreational calendar set for the home to which each child has input.

9. Assist in the development of a monthly food menu set for each home to which each child has input.
Menu must be consistent with or better than Canada’s Food Guide (https://food- guide.canada.ca/en/).

10. Ensuring daily notes and staff communication log are properly maintained on a daily basis and saved to a PDF version on a bi-weekly basis to the proper location on the Xpey Lelum network.

11. Approve purchases within limits as established in Xpey Lelum policies and procedures. Ensuring receipts are collected for all purchases and saved in a safe location for each office. This responsibility also includes ensuring receipts are labelled with the child’s initials, the home in which the child lives and the staff member’s written name; and submitted to the Finance and Payroll Clerk in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related human services field.
Experience in a group home setting an asset.
Minimum 2 years experience supervising staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Hours for this position are 3pm-10pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday
Will work across all XPey’ Homes and with all youth in XPey’ care;
Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
First Aid Certificate – EMERGENCY COMMUNITY CARE
Negative TB Skin/screening result
Medical note with a fit to work designation
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Up-to-date Immunization Record

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
