Overall Responsibilities
Reporting to Supervisor, Research & Innovation, the researcher role will be supporting the research driven corporate goals and objectives of the company, and conducting in-depth reviews on ingredients, products and manufacturers to support new product innovation. In this role the researcher will support the process to conceptualize and propose new, innovative products (based on science) for the company to develop. The researcher will follow potential products through the development phases, including idea identification, scoping, and development. Strong communication skills will be employed through liaising with marketing, regulatory, R&D, and finance personnel to identify optimal product development pathways and feasibility.
Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties
· Conduct extensive literature and market competitor reviews on current and new ingredients/products
· Review scientific technical material from raw ingredient and finished product suppliers
· Prepare research-based safety and efficacy documents for regulatory submissions and provide research support in product amendment process
· Provide scientific and technical support to marketing for claim development and substantiation
· Monitor and prepare monthly reports of selected journals, industry reports and other databases
· Work with buyers to source desired new raw materials
· Liaise with third party manufacturers as needed for all steps of the raw product launch process
· Plan and execute internal studies to assess potential products and ingredients
· Propose new formulas for products based on research and marketing objectives; optimize formulation with R&D
· Survey marketplace to purchase competitor products for competitor review purposes
· Working in compliance with the company’ s Health & Safety Policies/SOP’s including but not limited to the Safety Responsibilities Procedure.
· Will comply with Good Manufacturing Practices in all GMP sensitive areas of Jamieson Laboratories Ltd. facilities.
· Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
· Degree in Science: BSc in Life Sciences, Nutrition, Biomedical Sciences or related
· Previous experience in Research or Product Development, preferably in the Nutraceutical/Pharmaceutical industry or Food industry would be an asset
· Research minded with critical thinking skills
· Computer literate, including effective working skills in Word, Excel, MSOffice, significant experience with literature search engines. Knowledge in ERP systems would be an asset.
· Excellent technical writing skills and good grammar and punctuation. English essential, French desirable
· Energetic, self-motivated and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Effective project prioritization, multi-tasking and communication and networking skills a must
· Knowledge of GMP, GLP and Health & Safety training an asset
