Rehabilitation Assistant - HDRT Job at St. Joseph's Health Centre
This exciting and challenging opportunity will be of interest to an individual looking to work on a variety of acute care units at a community teaching hospital with a dedicated, interprofessional team. This role will provide clinical coverage as a float across inpatient acute-care units from Sunday to Thursday each week. Candidates must be willing to work in diverse patient care areas across the health centre including the main site and occasionally the Church Street site. Reporting to the Manager, Collaborative Practice and Education, this role will provide clinical coverage for Monday to Thursday shifts to assist with surges on units/ vacation/ absences as needed and Sunday weekend corporate high priority coverage. Candidates must be willing to work in diverse patient care areas across the hospital.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The primary role of the OTA/PTA is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and/or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist. This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.
- Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
- Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
- Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
- Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
- Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited combined OTA/PTA program
- Current CPR certification (or willingness to complete prior to the end of probationary period)
- 1 year experience working in acute care required
- Ability to carry out directions of therapists and modify interventions quickly in accordance to changes in patient status as required
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and critical thinking skills;
- Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment;
- Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
- Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member
- Willingness to participate in and/or lead relevant quality improvement initiatives
- Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of hospital/health service
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development
