What you will do…

You will support youth (aged 13-18 years) in our Drop-In Basketball Programs by facilitating game play, supporting basketball skill development and engaging in basketball alongside the youth participants. You will work as a part of the YMCA Youth Team to plan, promote, implement, and facilitate basketball/youth programs to meet the changings needs of youth in our community. You will build strong, positive, and trusting relationships with youth.

You will support YMCA Youth Programs to promote physical, social and mental wellbeing, personal development, leadership skills, and more. You will encourage youth to discover their personal identity regardless of gender, ethnicity, socio economic status. You will help youth develop leadership skills such as communication, problem solving and teamwork. You will empower youth to explore personal talents to build confidence and self-esteem. You will facilitate connections to networks and opportunities that enable youth to discover their potential. You will promote participation in community activities and volunteerism to enhance civic engagement.
What you will bring…
Ideally, you will have experience working with youth (13-18 yrs.) from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. In addition, you will have experience playing basketball at either the drop-in, recreational or competitive level. You will understand healthy adolescent development. Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work, Social Sciences, Recreation and Leisure or a related field, is an asset but not required.



You will be an excellent communicator, with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills. You are committed to assisting youth develop new skills and have a demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve set goals. Adaptability, communication, initiative, supporting equity, diversity & inclusion, self-management and teamwork are key competencies you rely on in your day to day work.
