The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for a Legislative Clerk to join the Corporate Administration Department. Under the direction of the Deputy Corporate Officer or designate, the Legislative Clerk undertakes a wide variety of legislative and administrative tasks pertaining to records management, leases, contracts and agreement administration, procurement, bylaws, Land Titles, Freedom of Information, internal and external communications, and various other legal/administrative projects. The Legislative Clerk provides accurate and efficient administrative support and delivers exceptional customer service with great interpersonal skills, as this role relies on the ability to effectively interact with the public and all City staff. This position requires superior organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure, maintain strict confidentiality and exercise considerable independent judgment within a busy and complex office environment.

The successful applicant must have a Grade 12 education, accurate and efficient keyboarding skills (minimum 60WPM speed), experience in computer use and programs; particularly the Microsoft Office Suite, and have a minimum of at least two years’ prior similar experience. The completion of a Criminal Record Check with results satisfactory to the employer is also required. Preferred candidates will hold a diploma in Administration or a related field, or possess a combination of relevant education and experience. Prior experience working in a legal or government office dealing with tight timelines, multiple competing priorities and legislative compliance would be considered assets. In addition, knowledge of legislation such as the Community Charter , Local Government Act and municipal bylaws would be advantageous.
