Reports to: Gardening Crew Leader

Purpose: As a Gardening Lead Hand, you are a talented gardener. You're comfortable taking the lead on smaller projects and know your plants well, from plant ID to pruning requirements. While maintaining beautiful spaces, you're organized, meticulous, and focused on great customer service.

DETAIL OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Execution

• Assist crew leader with periodic supervision, delegation, coordination and execution of day to day work activities of a small crew of 2-3 people, at times independently
• Assist crew leader in the management of safety, quality and productivity of work at sites and/or shop/yard
• Work safely and in a responsible manner, with eager participation and initiative
• Demonstrate continuous growth through personal goal achievement
• Demonstrate active participation in regular team meetings
• Comply with all company policies and regulations and local health and safety regulations
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
• Communicate to customer in polite and courteous manner
• Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, jobsites, and shop/yard areas
• Assist and collaborate with the enhancements team where required with:
  • New plantings and garden expansion
  • Improvements such as patio repair, cleaning or drainage
  • Other enhancements approved by Hutten & Co.

2. Assistant Leadership

3. Quality Workmanship

• Demonstrate advanced skill levels in the following:
  • Edging, spring cleanup of gardens, and mulching
  • Ongoing garden management, weeding and plant care
  • Fall cleanup of gardens and turf and winterization
  • Seasonal and specialized pruning and transplanting
  • Fertilizing and pest management
  • Seasonal colour (annuals and container plantings)
  • Irrigation and lighting maintenance services
  • Mathematics, site calculations and material quantity take-offs
  • Operation of all required tools and power equipment
  • Operation of heavy equipment, including yard loader
  • Operation of crew truck and trailer
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis

4. Short Term Planning and 4@4

• Periodically complete and submit required paperwork or electronic logs on a daily basis as required, including daily site meetings, planning reports, attendance/time keeping, “4@4” etc.

• You have a valid license
• You are able to use a smartphone for communication and reporting
• Horticulture diploma or certificate an asset
