The Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (SPEP) offers eligible Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) applicants the opportunity to complete a supervised practice experience in Ontario to demonstrate current nursing knowledge, skill, judgement and language proficiency skills in order to become registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

By participating in the program, applicants will have an opportunity to meet the Evidence of Practice or Evidence of Practice and Language Proficiency requirements to practice as a nurse.

Participating in the SPEP enables you to work as a learner for a minimum of 140 hours and a maximum of 450 hours, under the direct supervision of a preceptor, while you apply and develop your skills providing direct and indirect patient care in a supportive team environment.

An internationally educated nurse who has started the process to obtain a Canadian RN or RPN license must provide:

  • Evidence of qualification for a Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (found on CNO registration portal)
  • Evidence of a nursing license in good standing from another country
  • Evidence of international nursing education and experience
