Under the direction of the Director, Global Engagement, the incumbent will support the strategic direction for campus and community relations, engagement and partnership effort to enhance the international student recruitment, transition, experience and retention in all of Georgian College campuses and communities, and promotes community engagement and learning. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

Community Engagement and Relations:

  • Acquiring and maintaining positive relationships with vendors, organizations, and community partners to ensure engagement, customer service and collaborative relationships
  • Leading the development and maintenance of a comprehensive toolkit of resources to help build awareness of international students
  • Identifying, coordinating, supporting and attending events aimed at connecting students to the community and overseeing other staff and volunteers supporting events
  • Assisting the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) team/committee on Barrie’s Safety and Well-being Action protocols
  • Representing the department and/or participating on various external committees/meetings/events in the community

Campus Engagement and Relations:

  • Collaborating with other college partners to determine barriers, service improvements and supports that will increase the success of the international students to maximize recruitment, integration, success and retention both during academic studies and post-grad in the local community.
  • Overseeing Community Student Ambassadors’ daily tasks, program support/initiatives, processes and reporting, new hire orientation and communications
  • Assisting with the Georgian Assist app content, promotion and enhancements
  • Ensuring international students have equal access to supports, resources and services at each campus
  • Guiding and referring individual students to resources and programs both internally and within the community
  • Promoting the integration of international student services, resources and supports
  • Identifying volunteer opportunities for international student within the campus or broader community, and maintaining a database of volunteer opportunities, student referrals, and acquisition of opportunities

International Insurance Promotion and Relations:

  • Educating community partners about international insurance and the types of medical services the policy covers for international students
  • Acting as the liaison between community health providers and the insurance provider (guard.me) to foster a positive working relationship that benefits the student
  • Providing back up coverage for the Transition Support Officer in all duties related to administering guard.me insurance to college staff and students
  • Collaborating with external partners (regional hospitals, walk-in clinics etc.) and internal partners (Barrie’s onsite clinic, GCSA insurance) to make continuous improvements for international students to access primary health care services in the community they are living
  • Updating and maintaining a list of regional specific community health resources for international students to access at each campus location

Global Talk Cafes and Speaker Series:

  • Designing and delivering seminars and workshops across all campuses
  • Identifying and coordinating external guest speakers to deliver relevant topics that support international students’ learning, integration and retention in the local community
  • Collaborating with Internationalization Lead, Centre for Teaching and Learning, and EDIB members to help build cultural awareness and education

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to Business Administration, Public Relations or Human Resources
  • Three years of experience in a role that includes public relations, networking and/or joint programming with multiple interested parties (i.e. other employees, students, community partners/agencies etc.)
  • Experience with event, project management and contract administration
  • Experience working with clients or service providers with multicultural backgrounds
  • Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRMs) and Information Systems (IS) such as PeopleSoft or Banner
  • Computer and process proficiency for data analysis and reporting
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and detailed oriented while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours (evenings / weekends)
  • Ability to travel between campuses or to community events
  • Experience in a postsecondary educational environment is an asset
