The Opportunity
The Internal Audit Department provides independent and objective advice regarding the evaluation and improvement of the City's risk management, control and governance processes. In addition, it provides trusted advisory services to all departments, designed to add value and improve City operations.
Reporting to the Director of Internal Audit, the Internal Auditor is responsible to assist the Director in developing and executing the City's audit plan, and take a lead role in the day-to-day execution of internal audits. This position evaluates and makes recommendations on the quality of controls over business risks as well as provides trusted advisory services designed to add value and improve the City's operations. The Internal Auditor works with the Director of Internal Audit to ensure that senior leadership are aware of the risks associated with current corporate governance, policies, processes, and provides appropriate risk reduction or management recommendations.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Four (4) year University Degree in Finance, Accounting or Commerce
- Completion of Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada
Experience
- Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Working knowledge of legislation governing municipal activities and related regulations
- Working knowledge of the following principles and standards:
- risk and control concepts and the ability to apply these concepts to evaluate the effectiveness of business processes and controls to mitigate risk
- auditing standards with regard to planning, testing, sampling and documentation
- Demonstrated Ability to:
- prepare detailed and summary reports for senior management detailing findings and recommendations of work performed
- exhibit strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate complex and politically sensitive information with all levels of the organization
- develop, promote and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- work independently and with minimal supervision
- exercise discretion and judgement when handling confidential and sensitive information
- investigate serious circumstances involving staff actions and exhibit professional conduct when dealing with staff in potentially awkward situations
- act with professional scepticism

- Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat and internet applications
- Experience with financial and other business systems sufficient to quickly understand and evaluate such systems, as well as extract data for analysis and reporting
- Availability to attend evening/weekend meetings or to work outside of designated normal hours per week

Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario.*
- Please note ,the City has recently launched a Hybrid Work Program Procedure that may allow a hybrid work arrangement for employees who meet the eligibility requirements.
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week; however, some non-standard hours may apply.
Wage: This a permanent full-time non-union position with the following pay level and 2022 pay range:
- Pay Level: Level 13
- Yearly Salary: $91,413.60 to $122,481.32 per year
- Hourly Pay Rate: $50.23 to $67.30 per hour
