Musashi Auto Parts Canada Inc. is looking for an Intermediate New Product Development Engineer to work out of the Waterloo, Ontario Technical Centre. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years experience of automotive product design, production process development or supplier development. The Intermediate New Product Development Engineer is responsible for developing the priority targets of the development strategic plan that are aligned with the targeted opportunities of the regional growth plan. They will leverage internal and external resources to ensure that development objectives in product, process or supplier development are achieved in support of target acquisition plans and the development of New Product and/or Technology roadmaps. In this market-facing role, you will strive to ensure that development objectives align with future customer expectations and market trends in order to position Musashi to successfully achieve our growth and profit targets.

Responsibilities

  • Perform market researches to understand market requirements and develop innovative product development.
  • Perform benchmark studies and engage with customers to understand spec requirements.
  • Analyze new components, materials and technologies to evaluate functionality for all new product development.
  • Analyze product cost and develop clear project plans to validate proof of concept of new product.
  • Prepare product design and test plans, review design and provide adequate changes to the approved models before actual role out of new products
  • Design new concepts for development of new products and maintain technical compatibility to develop concepts into real products, this includes, development of new technology and devices to test functionality of new products, development of new suppliers of material, process, components... etc.
  • Provide technical support to product engineering launches.
  • Create Musashi Design Manual and Development processes while designing prototypes for proof of concept validation process.
  • Report on project status to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Eligible for EIT or P. Eng designation preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in link and suspension automotive product design, production process development or supplier development.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to write technical reports and present complex ideas to a broad audience.
  • Ability to identify value proposition opportunities and present project plan to validate new innovative product ideas for proof of concept
  • Strong technical aptitude; understanding of application of engineering principles and process of design for manufacturing and design for value.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and get results.
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office including MS Project and modeling software including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CATIA.
  • Experience of Link & Suspension design is an asset.
