Job Summary

The Technical Course Developer is the designer responsible to develop learning programs and materials for pharmacy retail stores, Pharmacy Technology Solutions internal teams and other McKesson stakeholders. This role supports the business relationships with other McKesson business partners as they relate to eLearning and LMS needs.

Using up-to-date adult learning theory, this position focuses on writing content, step by step procedures, practice activities and assessments for specific training, breaking down learning objectives into teaching points and developing instructional flow. Learning content is conveyed in eLearning and instructor-led training. This position is the key subject matter expert for the business on training design and instructional techniques.

Section A – Specific Responsibilities
  • Using adult learning theory, support the product SMEs in the building of training plans and the development of training materials, training evaluation grids and training delivery
  • Design instructional programs and materials that support learning strategies, including print-based solutions, instructor-lead solutions, and e-learning solutions, that support classroom, virtual and on-site delivery
  • Design and maintain training materials to support the learning of our products and services
  • Establish and integrate programs with a Learning Management System (LMS) and develop e-learning curricula
  • Support business relationships with our business partners as they relate to learning and LMS needs
  • Collaborate with other McKesson business units with regards to their LMS and PTS training offerings, as part of PTS long-term strategy
  • Create targeted approach to implementing Rx software in major educational institutes.
  • Develop and maintain certification programs and Badging for PTS eLearning Modules (Rx and POS).
  • Manage medium to complex projects, including developing project plans and process flowcharts; coach and mentor others on project management issues that are supported by position
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with various project stakeholders and business partners to ensure that goals and objectives are being met
  • Liaise with business partners, as required, throughout the design process for content validation
  • Collaborate with the Technical Writer to validate that content in both the Rx and POS Online help and other communications to ensure it coincides with the learning
  • Develop and conduct evaluations on the effectiveness of training programs and learning outcomes; apply and implement recommendations for improvement
  • Conduct learning needs analysis and assist in the evaluation of instructional effectiveness for course materials that are produced
  • Produce creative, innovative and accurate training solutions
  • Maintain instructional design standards for all existing and future training materials that support continued quality, speed of delivery, and learning reinforcement
  • Responsible to ensure all learning and communications deliverables adhere to brand standards

  • Deliver high quality written materials, translating IT terms into easy-to-understand general concepts for customers
  • Drive results by leveraging influencing abilities across teams for which they do not have direct management responsibility
  • Fully qualified to execute job/role accountabilities working independently on most aspects of work
  • Demonstrate decision-making authority and autonomy needed to deliver on accountabilities of job/role; seek approval from others on matters outside of job/role scope
  • May lead a work group or project team consisting of technical and support staff
  • Ensure commitments to internal and external customers are met in a timely and cost-effective manner; solicit feedback from customers to identify opportunities to improve products and/or services; resolve minor conflicts and involve others in problem resolution
  • Build internal and customer relationships with emphasis on those that facilitate the achievement of job/role accountabilities, such as relationships with customers and internal service providers
  • Seek and provide candid and timely feedback to improve performance; share information in an open manner; foster teamwork and innovation by involving others in problem solving, decision-making and creative thinking
  • Ensure to respect and adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Ensure to sustain job performance standards and objectives set through the progress and appraisal guidelines
  • Manage multiple tasks in a rapidly changing, deadline-oriented environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support McKesson Canada

Section C – Position Requirements
  • 2-5 years of experience as an Instructional Designer developing training programs
  • Degree, diploma or certificate in Adult Learning Principles, Education or related discipline
  • Certification in Change Management (ADKAR Model) is an asset
  • Proven record of developing creative, high impact training programs with a demonstrated focus using adult education learning structures
  • Experience using basic curriculum development practices that incorporate adult education principles, activity-based methods and formative and summative evaluation techniques
  • Experience with web-based, computer-based and other multi-media training techniques
  • Strong project management skills; knowledge of MS Project is an asset
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent computer proficiency, including all Microsoft Office 365 applications and Adobe products
  • Knowledge of Absorb Storyline or other eLearning development software
  • Must have excellent oral and written English communication skills; French is an asset
  • Experience working in a retail pharmacy environment is an asset
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills (deliverables completed on time and within budget)
  • Strong interpersonal skills in building and maintaining internal relationships with business units
  • Strong analytical skills in interpreting information, understanding evolving systems and processes and analyzing strategies
  • A strong team player who is also able to work autonomously
  • Ability to remain flexible in a constantly changing environment; demonstrated ability to work on technical projects with shifting scope and schedules

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$69,700 - $116,100
