Hydrometric Technologist Job at Northwest Hydraulic Consultants
Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is an international firm of civil engineers and geoscientists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources. A career at NHC has you working within a specialized team of geoscientists, water resources engineers, hydrologists, surveyors, field technicians, and GIS specialists.
We are currently seeking a hydroclimate technologist candidate with strong skills in year-round field work, hydrometrics, surveying, and data processing to participate in our river engineering, hydrology, and geomorphology projects. The position will be based in NHC’s North Vancouver office, but project work will be throughout BC and Western Canada.
About the Role
Familiarity with hydrometric stations, flow gauging (ADCP, ADV, and dilution) and/or weather monitoring is required; and experience with total station surveys, GPS-based surveys (static, RTK, and DGPS), and hydrographic surveying will be a definite asset. Proficiency with data reduction software, excel, ArcGIS, Aquarius, and drafting packages such as AutoCAD and Civil3D will also be an asset.
The successful candidate will
- be self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work outdoors.
- be physically able to lift and carry equipment, supplies and other items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- be comfortably able to swim 50 metres, and work in and around water.
- have an interest in overseeing the maintenance of field equipment.
- have a commitment to high quality, client service.
- have excellent communication and organizational skills.
- be available to travel throughout BC and Alberta and work outdoors in sometimes challenging and remote locations.
Previous experience with rope work, water sports, hiking and/or snow sports would be beneficial.
