Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers

To meet the growing demand for the services that our front-line workers provide for seniors and people with disabilities, March of Dimes Canada (MODC), in partnership with IBT College, is introducing a new program to rapidly train home support workers.

This is an Employer-sponsored program. Candidates must be hired by March of Dimes Canada prior to the start of the training. The program is a six-week training program that includes four weeks of paid, online training and two weeks of paid, hands-on learning at a March of Dimes Canada location. March of Dimes Canada is seeking candidates from the following regions: Toronto, Markham, Hamilton, or the Niagara Region.

This innovative program includes:

  • Paid training and paid hands-on learning time
  • Guaranteed job with MODC, competitive salary, with a benefits and pension package upon completion of required hours.
  • You will be hired by MODC at the start of the Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers. Upon completion of training, you will start working for MODC.

Admission requirements

To qualify and register for this program, please note that you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check conducted by the police
  • Have reliable transportation to get to and from work
  • Be eligible to work in Canada
  • Have a computer and basic computer skills (for example, the ability to use video-conferencing applications)
  • Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by receiving all required doses of a vaccine that is approved by Health Canada at least 14 days before the program begins
  • Be able to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR training and accreditation within the first three months of employment
  • Be able to meet the physical demands

Developing the skills you need

When you graduate from the Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers, you’ll be able to:

  • Improve clients’ independence and quality of life as a member of one of MODC’s dynamic care teams
  • Provide person-centred care that is sensitive to the values, beliefs, and needs of each client
  • Assist individuals with daily living routines and household management
  • Maintain helping relationships with individuals and families
  • Identify issues using basic assessment strategies, and report findings
  • Work within all the applicable legislation and MODC’s policies and guidelines

By completing the program, you’ll be credited hours toward IBT College’s Personal Support Worker Diploma program, should you be interested in enrolling in this more expanded program in the future. Learn more about the Personal Support Worker Diploma program.

Important dates and details

Please note that:

  • The deadline to apply for this program is Wednesday, February 1, 2023
  • The Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers starts on Monday, February 6, 2023
  • Online classes run from 9 am to 1 pm, from Monday to Friday. Participants also need to complete one hour of independent study each day.
  • Spaces are limited — please apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment
