Heavy Equipment Technician

Acden Fleet is currently accepting applications for two (2) Journeyperson/Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technicians (Truck & Transport) or 3rd/4th year Apprentices to support their Fleet Shop. This position is located at the Acden Fleet Shop in Taiganova and consists of a 7 on, 7 off; 12-hour day shifts; totaling 84 hours per rotation. OT is paid after 8 hours per day and all day Saturday and Sunday. Please note: hours, schedules and locations may change from time to time due to operational requirements. This is a local position to the Fort McMurray region; the successful candidate must have their own transportation and accommodation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of truck and transport diagnosis, repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Complete routine self-generated work, and daily work order requests for repairs and service.
- Complete estimates and maintain accurate reporting and documentation on performed work.
- Interaction with customers to provide service details as required.
- Mentor and train apprentices as needed.
- Actively participate in the shop safety program and maintain strict adherence to OH&S guidelines.
- Contribute to general housekeeping and organization within the shop.
- Other duties as required to provide full service for Acden Fleet customers.
Qualifications and Abilities:
- 5 or more years experience as a Journeyperson or Red Seal Technician.
- Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVIP) is preferred.
- Experience with Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, and/or Cummins engines is preferred.
- Recent experience with Tractor Trailer such as Kenworth, Peterbilt, International is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a diverse workforce as well as independently.
- Problem-solving and organization skills.
- Experience planning and prioritizing when faced with multiple tasks.
- Complete work in compliance with legislation, regulations and Acden policies and procedures.
- Must be physically fit to complete the tasks assigned which involves extensive walking, climbing, and working in awkward positions, along with carrying of heavy materials.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Alberta Certified Journeyperson or Red Seal in Heavy Equipment Trade (Truck & Transport).
- Class 1 or Class 3 licence with Air Brakes is preferred.
o Submit a 5-year driver’s abstract that is not more than 30 days old.
- Class 5 licence is required
- Please list all training and certifications on your resume.
- Candidates must provide their own tools.
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO) or equivalent.
- Comprehensive Drug, Alcohol, Hearing and Physical Abilities Testing tests.
- Eligible to work on all Oil Sands sites within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
