Richmond hospital has 240 beds, sees over 50,000 emergency room patients per year and runs seven acute operating rooms daily as well as a minor procedure room, a busy rehab clinic and an ambulatory procedure centre. The medical community is collegial and supportive with excellent relationships between departments as well as between community family physicians and specialists. Due to its proximity to the Vancouver Airport, the hospital also provides services for visitors traveling to and from YVR.
Richmond It is the fourth largest city in BC. The population of 226,000 is one of the most ethnically diverse in Canada. It is centrally located on Canada's West Coast, in Metro Vancouver and we acknowledge its location is on the unceded and traditional homelands of the Coast Salish peoples. The city is 20 minutes from Downtown Vancouver, 25 minutes from the US border and it is the location of Metro Vancouver's international airport. Neighbouring communities are Vancouver and Burnaby to the north, New Westminster to the east, and Delta to the south. The Strait of Georgia forms its western border.
As a General Internist with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:
- Participate in a new model of care, comprising a ward rounding service (0700-1700), day ward and ER consult service (0700-1700), and night ward and ER consult service (1700-0700), with other internists, according to a schedule. The rounding service is expected to have a patient cap.
Qualifications
Education, Licensing, & Experience:
- Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License - Full
- Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
Knowledge & Abilities:
- Passionate about patient welfare you understand the importance of delivering high quality care in the context of complex health care systems.
- Understanding the importance of continuous and effective communication, you are highly skilled at listening, engaging and consulting with diverse stakeholders including patients, internal and external healthcare professionals and caseworker teams.
- Ability to pull together the appropriate data and resources to make sound decisions that are based on fact and supported rationale. The common sense and good judgement to ‘make the call’ or understand the risks associated with certain decisions and able to work well under pressure.
