What you will do:
Our People Team is looking for someone to lead the development and implementation of our Health & Safety and Well-being programs and practices across the organization and within our many locations. You will partner with our operational leaders to understand the needs and implement best practices to foster a culture of Accountability and Ownership, along with Compassion and Collective Caring around our organizational health and well-being commitments.
Specific Responsibilities:
Health & Safety (H&S) Management :
- You will design, deliver and administer effectiveness of our H&S commitments by working collaboratively, building strong relationships to deliver solutions that are relevant and right-sized for our operational needs in partnership with our leaders and employees.
- You will guide leaders as the subject-matter-expert (SME) to promote the benefits of various initiatives while always looking for continuous improvement areas when interpreting H&S legislation, audit and compliance requirements.
- You will have oversight and leadership of our H&S practices, legislative changes, and initiatives as related to our operational needs and manage these changes for our organization.
- You will develop and deliver on program training, toolkits, resources and guidance to leaders on processes and requirements, including development of any new offerings or areas of focus.
- You will foster engagement with the Joint Health & Safety Committee and partner to identify potential safety hazards and make recommendations to leadership, the Risk Council and operations, while balancing activation around resolution.
Well-being Management:
- You will design and deliver on workplace well-being initiatives and practices to foster a culture of collective caring around organizational and employee well-being.
- You will support the integration and sustainment of physical and psychological H&S concepts and principles to understand impacts to our employee and organizational experiences, while aligning to our JAIDE commitments (justice, access, inclusion, diversity and equity and inclusion) to recommend improvements to our programs.
- You will work collaboratively with colleagues in People Partnerships & Delivery, WorkWell and Operations on projects and priorities to implement leadership and talent development strategies to approach workplace well-being.
- You will administer our Well-being and Absence Management programs – including leaves of absences, Long-term disability claims, and support the development of employee accommodation and return to-work-plans to foster prevention and educational activities.
- You will have oversight to developing and implementing strategies that focus on prevention, early intervention, proactive actions, self-efficacy and agency for our leaders and employees.
- You may be required to support workplace intervention solutions or investigations related to employee safety and well-being.
- You will partner with People Team and WorkWell Teams to identify gaps or areas of insights to action from our regular surveys to improve all areas of well-being, employee mental health & safety.
- You will identify and implement programming opportunities for mental health support through EAP and other resources.
- You will support and lead the organization in building safety & well-being metrics, trends and analytics required to support H&S and Well-being strategic commitments.
- You will partner with leaders and employees, supporting them in core People and Culture elements including managing and resolving employee relations issues, investigation and termination supports, leadership / employee coaching, talent management and development priorities for service areas as required.
- You will provide change management and transformation supports as required through our unification alignment work with leaders and employees.
- You will be required to build relationships and use your business acumen to inform actionable insights, process improvements and forward thinking ideas working alongside key operational and service delivery business projects.
You may be required from time-to-time to step in to provide support with other client group inquiries, people operations projects for growth and ongoing development and during periods to provide coverage or as needed to support the overall team.
What we’re looking for :
- Seasoned, experienced professional with demonstrated understanding of Human Resources, Health & Safety and Employee Well-being
- 5+ years of progressive experience in mental health and well-being promotion theory, and organizational health and wellness programming, with a related post-secondary education or a comparable combination of experience and education in Business Management, Health Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety or Human Resources.
- Certifications in Workplace Wellness and Health Promotion or Mental Health First Aid Certification would be an asset.
- Designation such Certified Human Resources Professional, Project Management Professional, LEAN/Six Sigma, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) would be an asset.
- Strong project management and change management skills; the ability to lead projects, lead change initiatives, motivate teams, and drive execution to the achievement of the right results.
- Robust knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Labor Code, Provincial health and safety laws, and CSA standards including ESA, AODA and applicable Bills.
- Previous experience conducting workplace investigations and management of the Ministry of Labour would be strongly desired.
- Experience at a strategic and tactical level with ability to influence various levels of leadership.
- Demonstrated experience providing analysis from disparate systems and providing concise and meaningful stories through the data. Able to manage systems and extract and present data and analysis to solve business problems.
- Strong personal ethics and integrity. You always make an effort to do the right thing, and you’re comfortable managing sensitive information.
- Consultative skills; the ability to build strong partnerships and to influence without authority, confidently, effectively, and collaboratively.
- Well respected and able to establish credibility with internal stakeholders and external individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, a wide range of tasks and stakeholders, to multiple deadlines and commitments, while balancing diverse functional areas of focus.
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity,
