The Position
We are currently expanding our team, and we are seeking a well-rounded multifaceted Accountant applicant with good communication and detail-oriented skills, a willingness to learn, and a drive to move into other positions. Attitude is key to us, and we are willing to train the right person into more advanced positions.
This position does require creating and developing processes and procedures for other junior staff and interns in the departments.
The ideal candidate is someone that is looking to grow from this position into more senior accountanting roles, as Digital Shovel is extremely big on promoting from within.
This position is available as a fixed term 3 month contract with the opportunity to move into full time, or potentially starting as an immediate full time permanent position depending on the candidate.
Job responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining accurate financial records using QuickBooks Online
- Bi-Weekly payroll
- Preparing financial reports
- Full cycle bookkeeping (accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank transactions, invoice processing, adjusting journal entries, payment processing)
- Bank reconciliations
- Government filings, including HST and payroll deduction remittances
- Preparation of team budgets
- Streamlining day-to-day financial operations by providing feedback on process improvements and expenditure reduction
- Liaise with an external accountant on notice to reader and audit engagements
- Assist with the transition to a new ERP system after the year-end close
- Assist in developing and executing formal month-end close processes
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline
- Minimum 4 years of related experience in accounting or finance roles
- 2 Year experience with running payroll
- Knowledge of data management and financial data analysis
- Must have prior experience in QuickBooks Online and advanced knowledge of Excel
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to situations in a highly dynamic and quick-paced environment.
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication as well as written skills, coupled with a strong sense of self-motivation and accountability
- Confidentiality, integrity, good judgement
- Working towards an accounting designation preferred
