Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as employee relations expert for Canada providing guidance on employee concerns and conducting investigations, advising/guiding people leaders, demonstrating effective listening, probing, and investigatory skills with the ability to clearly and objectively synthesize information in a timely manner
  • Collaborate to develop and execute Canada-based HR compliance programs, processes, and initiatives, including identity verification/work authorization; pre-employment screening and adjudication, including independently determining employment eligibility; and post-hire screening and adjudication processes
  • Regularly audit internal procedures to ensure consistency and adherence to federal, state, local and provincial requirements, including collaborating with talent acquisition and other internal teams for effective implementation and best practices
  • Collaborate to develop, implement, and provide governance for Cox Auto Canada’s HR policies, including the Driver’s Manual/Employee Handbook; HR standard operating procedures; process guidelines; and workplace training initiatives; and ensure policies, practices, and procedures are consistent with current legal trends, provincial requirements, and industry best practices
  • Assist in developing and implementing an effective preventive labor relations program, including identification of opportunity areas and development of labor relations strategy and training
  • Support US-based employee relations, HR compliance, and employment practices initiatives and processes, along with other projects/initiatives as necessary

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field
  • Minimum 6 years of related experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Direct experience handling all aspects of employee relations issues, including intake, review, and resolution
  • Demonstrated experience with pre-employment background check adjudication and individualized assessment process
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing HR policies and workplace training
  • Advanced knowledge of workplace investigations, union avoidance, employee advocacy, and provincial employment laws
  • Ability to think and understand at all employee levels (exempt, non-exempt, corporate, field) when resolving issues
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to advise HR Business Partners and all levels of management around recommendations to resolve employee concerns and issues
  • Able to work independently and with a sense of urgency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of applying sound judgement and discretion when handling sensitive information
  • Ability to collect, understand, interpret and share data
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, as needed, for investigations
  • Ability to work successfully 100% remotely other than periodic required travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified HR designation, such as CHRP or CHRL preferred
  • Experience with Workday and Service Now or other web-based case management system preferred
  • Fluent in French
