Your opportunity:

Working with a dynamic team and under the general direction of the Senior Manager, Community, Global and Intercultural Experience, you will be dedicated to the enrichment of the co-curricular life of the campus and focused on transition programming for UTSC’s first year student population.

As the Coordinator, First Year Programs, your role will involve the development, coordination and evaluation of co-curricular experiential learning opportunities, with an emphasis on first year student development and equity. This will entail fostering an open and inclusive world view environment; overseeing the development of students and peer mentor learning communities; organizing and facilitating student development workshops; recruiting and training work study students; and developing innovative programming that supports the successful personal, social and academic transition of our diverse student population.

Your work will also involve extensive participation in committees, partnerships and communication in-person with students and campus stakeholders, as well as being the on-site lead or support for events, training and workshop delivery. These partnerships will require you to work closely with the other positions within Student Life & the International Student Centre and Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing, Admissions, Recruitment and the Registrar’s Office, in addition to other campus partners such as the various co-op programs and academic departments. Your work will be informed by relevant research, anti-oppression and transition theory, coupled with consultation with a broad range of student groups and student services.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Overseeing the development of students and peer mentor learning communities
  • Promoting experiential learning opportunities
  • Developing content for instructional workshops
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students


Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum four (4) years related experience in student development or student advising, preferably within a post-secondary environment
  • Demonstrated experience developing, coordinating and evaluating orientation programming and activities for post-secondary students
  • Strong experiential background working with diverse student communities and a commitment to improving and enhancing the student experience
  • Experience in coordinating student mentorship programs
  • Experience supervising and training a large team of casual staff and students
  • Experience working from an anti-oppressive and equity framework
  • Must possess the ability to relate to students in a manner which builds trust and confidence
  • Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to be comfortable working independently and in a team environment, as well as the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Sound proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint), MS Teams, and Zoom
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends
