Casual Daycare Staff - ECE/ECEA/RA Job at Sunshine Coast Health Centre
Sunshine Coast Health Centre (SCHC) and Georgia Strait Women's Clinic (GSWC) is an ever-growing organization offering men and women treatment for addictions, mental health, and trauma. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have come to realize the paramount importance of stable and consistent child care for our employees in order to ensure they can continue to come to work and provide the essential services and treatments they are trained in. Because of this, we have allocated the space and resources to provide onsite child care and before/after school programming for our staff families.
To take care of the tiniest and youngest members of our staff, we are looking for Casual Early Childhood Educators (ECE), Early Childhood Educator Assistants (ECEA) or Responsible Adults (RA).
POSITION: Staff will work under the direction of Seaside Children Centre's Administrator to implement an emergent and play-based Early Learning program. They will provide quality childcare to families of our staff (as well as public when space is available) from ages 0-12.
WAGE:
$20.00 - $25.00/hour plus the $4.00/hour ECE Wage Enhancement. Depending on certification.
Qualifications:
- ECE, ECEA, or RA License
- Infant Toddler License an asset
- A clear criminal record check
- Immunization record
- Some Administrative Experience
- Emergency First Aid Certificate for Childcare or Community Service Workers
- Food Safe

- Have a clear understanding of the child care rules and regulations and the child care facility policies and procedures
- Be patient, warm, and caring towards all families, children, and co-workers
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbally
- Ability to multitask
- Knowledge of age-appropriate activities
- Ability to provide a calm and positive role model to children
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and ensure everyone's dignity
- Ability to work as a member of the team
- Ability to establish and maintain strong and supportive relationships with parents, children, and co-workers
- Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness
- Strong work ethics and positive attitude
- Basic-intermediate computer skills
- Flexible and accommodating to changes in schedule and need of the centre
- Willingness to work flexible hours
- Ability to work cooperatively with other team members
Relationships:
- Communicate daily with parents and guardians
- Follows the direction of the Administrator when relaying information to the parents
Duties
- Plans and implements an emergent curriculum in collaboration with the childcare team
- Ensures that the play environment is safe and child-appropriate
- Take part in all aspects of the program (Crafts, Circle Time, in and outdoor activities) and supervise children
- Assists in the setup of the play environment
- Is always aware of the number of children in attendance, ensuring that the children are signed in and out
- Food preparation (Snacks and lunches)
- Housekeeping, including kitchen duties and laundry
- Diapering and toilet training
- Facilitates the transitioning of toddlers to the program
- Participates in monthly fire and earthquake drills
- Documentation of incidents
- Uses preferred communication channels to share information with staff and parents
- Record keeping (example: toileting, sleep time, food intake, etc.
- Uses confidential book for information that is shared with staff only
- Follows opening and/or closing routines if scheduled
- Reports maintenance issues to the Program Administrator
- Other duties as requested by the Program Administrator
- Is familiar with the Childcare Centre Policies and Procedures
- Ensures that the program and cubby areas look presentable
